Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the Commonwealth Legal Education Association (CLEA) – Commonwealth Attorneys and Solicitors General Conference (CASGC) 2024 at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, where he emphasized the importance of international collaboration in addressing cyber threats and challenges posed by cryptocurrencies.
Under the theme “Cross-Border Challenges in Justice Delivery,” the Prime Minister engaged in discussions covering vital aspects of law and justice, such as judicial transition and the ethical dimensions of legal practice.
During his address, PM Modi shed light on the evolving nature and scope of crime in recent times. He highlighted the utilization of extensive criminal networks spanning multiple countries, leveraging the latest technologies in both funding and operations. Emphasizing the interconnectedness of economic crimes across regions, he pointed out how funds from one area could be used to support activities in another. The Prime Minister underscored the challenges posed by the growing prominence of cryptocurrencies and the increasing prevalence of cyber threats.
In response to these challenges, PM Modi stressed the need for a comprehensive reevaluation, reimagining, and reform of legal systems. He advocated for the modernization of legal frameworks, making them more flexible and adaptable to effectively tackle emerging issues in the ever-evolving landscape of crime and technology.
The conference’s focus on cross-border challenges reflects a recognition of the globalized nature of contemporary crime, requiring collaborative efforts among nations to address and combat threats effectively. It also includes a special roundtable conference for Attorneys and Solicitors General, aiming to create a roadmap to address challenges in legal education and transnational justice delivery.
